Newly Wed Cooking Chronicles

Deja vu!!!

I remembered newly married me, the first of the two times I forgot to prepare the most important part of our lunch plate - Rice!

So, it happened so, that my dad came to visit us after our wedding , for the first time. The newly married me, who has very little cooking experience was enthused that I would get to show off my cooking skills to my papa.

I planned a special vegetarian plate, a proper GSB style plate,

Ie, Daali Varan ( toor dal yellow curry, read as one which has no chilli in the masala)
Sol Kadi ( a staple of us gsbs and for me a must have with varan)
Bataatyaa fodi ( potato Rawa Fry)
Kaakadi Koshimbir ( cucumber salad)
Shevayaa Paays( Vermicelli Kheer)

Pickle and papad by default.

I toiled in the kitchen for an hour or two and at exactly 1 pm I finished the fodi preparation and called my dad - Papa yo re! ( Papa pls come )

As i laid the Taat( lunch plate) and served the side items, I reached out for the Xitaa Toup( rice vessel) and O migosh! I realised that I had forgotten our most important carb in the plate!!!!

Imagine my embarrassment!

But papa bring the dear chap that he is said, no worries, I m not so hungry yet. U get the rice ready.

Those were the days of cooker rice! So well! It got ready in a jiffy! And instead of 1 we had lunch at 1.30.

Haha! O those lovely days of novice mistakes!
